MISS CHARM ETIQUETTE CLASSES
Traditional etiquette class reaches new generation

Today’s tweens are discovering that social graces are not just for older people, thanks in part to renovated etiquette programs created by a local businesswoman.
“I kept expecting kids to act in ways most of them had never been taught,” said Toni R. Bryant, founder of Miss Charm Etiquette Seminars based in Dallas. “I would encounter children in both casual and formal settings and their behavior wasn’t appropriate, mostly because they didn’t know what to do or how to do it.”
Thus launched the beginning of her summer etiquette and behavior enrichment programs that incorporates a clearly defined value system of the social graces in a contemporary manner. The program is entering its fourth year and enrollment continues to increase.
“Parents were looking for something like this for their kids, too,” she said. “The kids and their parents are excited about what’s being taught.”

CONDOLENCES
"Since 1960 when the first African-American student was enrolled at Abilene Christian from Southwestern Christian, our colleges have been inextricably linked for decades.
Naturally, our hearts were saddened to hear about the students and faculty who were injured in the bus accident headed toward the Medina Children's Home. We were especially saddened at the death of Ms. Anabel Reid, whose young life had been filled with various mission trips.
Chief among the reasons students choose our respective colleges is the opportunity to grow in the service of the Lord. Christian education provides an unshakable foundation for students equipping them for service in this life and eternal peace in the next.
In our grief at the temporary separation from Anabel, may we find comfort in her resolve to serve others ensuring the love of Jesus reigns supreme across the world.
Please know the ACU family is in the thoughts and prayers of the SwCC family today and in the days to come."

SORORITY RECOMMENDATION
" To Whom It May Concern:
I am pleased to address you on behalf of a dynamic young woman I’ve had the pleasure of knowing her entire life.  She is a talented, bright, and special young woman who I believe is ready to accept the responsibility of being an Alpha Kappa Alpha woman. Jane Brown is that young woman.
Jane was in the first Bible class I ever taught. Even as a toddler, she was confident and charming. I have watched her develop and mature through the years winning awards, earning scholarships and representing the best in our community.  I am truly proud of the person she has become.
Two years ago, Jane was one of thousands of students displaced by Hurricane Katrina. She returned to Dallas, devastated by the tragedy and its impact on her new home. While she was forced to temporarily continue her education elsewhere, she vowed to return to Xavier – where her heart was. And, she did just that. During that horrible situation, I personally witnessed Jane exhibit strength, courage, and determination – all traits of an Alpha Kappa Alpha woman

Family Tributes

My GRANDmother
by Jane Brown

My grandmother was truly grand. The dictionary defines “grand” as impressive, wonderful, or magnificent. And, she was all of that, and more.
She was a lady – a grand lady – whose presence in our family will forever be missed and cherished. She commanded attention when she entered any room. This diminutive woman with a quiet voice walked tall and proud. She chose her words carefully, but when she spoke she had something to say.
She was a wife – a grand wife – whose husband was the apple of her eye. She taught us that supporting your husband’s dreams were essential to a happy marriage. Yet, she pursued her own interests while caring for her family’s needs.
She was a friend – a grand friend – who loved to talk and visit with dear friends and relatives. She was sharp, quick-witted, and a joy to be around.
She was a mother – a grand mother – who gave her very best to her children. She was nurturing, yet firm. She was sweet, yet strong. She was tender and loving while she taught them right from wrong. She gave her very best to her children and grandchildren.
And, yes, she was my grandmother – my MamMaw – and I am a better mother because of the example she left for me and my children. I hope to live in the grand legacy that she built for this family.

MamMaw, thank you for the grand memories!
