Compassion has never been an emotion of either/or.
Compassion has the capacity to embrace all hurts.
I grieve the deaths of the police officers whose lives were senselessly taken last night in my city while protecting our first amendment rights. I was literally ill last night watching the footage.
Likewise, I still grieve the deaths of citizens whose lives were taken needlessly during routine police encounters. Those deaths rock the core of my soul.
So, the pain we feel today in Dallas is not mutually exclusive to the pain felt in other parts of the nation. It's very similar, horrific and painful.
Our hearts must be big enough to honor all of these untimely deaths and begin today working together to find a solution to stop all of this madness.
