I had such high hopes for 2016. I had plans for weight loss, more consistent blogging, better organization, and many other extraordinary possibilities.
Yet, here I am at the beginning of February and I find myself in the same place I was at the end of 2015. I should probably yield to the notion that changing the calendar doesn’t make things magically happen.
It’s rare that anything happens without some effort. Breathing and blinking – that’s about it.
There’s so much excitement associated with the beginning of the year. People all over the world celebrate the end of the year; whether it’s elaborate parties, worship services, or quiet sabbaticals. Saying goodbye to the past has become a welcomed tradition for many and is often accompanied by the enthusiasm and wonder of what the future holds.
I love the hope the New Year brings. I just don’t love the effort it takes to transform hope into action. So, all these New Years later, I guess I’m finally realizing there’s no magic in turning the page on the calendar.
There’s only magic when I turn a new leaf inside of me.
Now, if I could just get off of the sofa long enough to do that…
